Foundation

“WILD ISLAND” foundation is a nonprofit organization and is directly funded by Wild Vegan Private Limited. Wild Island foundation is responsible for all the projects, research, and publications about wildlife and nature conservation. Under the foundation, there are several teams who are working on photography projects, research work, implementation of research findings in real life, developing new forests, and bridging them with primary forests, rescuing animals, knowledge sharing, and working on developing solutions for nature and wildlife conflicts in Sri Lanka.

Walankanda is a mountainous rainforest located adjacent to the world heritage site Sinharaja rainforest and part of the Rakwana massif. Walankanda is currently facing fragmentation due to tea plantations and urban development. “Forest connect” represents our attempt to reconnect the isolated forest patches by developing eco bridges and reforestation. The Walankanda range reaches elevations of 1000+m, with unexplored areas thriving in biodiversity. Being a part of the major inselbergs of the island, Rakwana massif has unique radiation of endemic fauna and we have identified that the faunal diversity of this area is poorly studied. Our mission is to make a connection again between the forests to create a continued natural habitat for the animals.

SPECIES CONSERVATION

EXPLORE WILD SPECIES

Despite the incredible biodiversity of Sri Lanka, Correct knowledge and updated information on flora and fauna are still scarcely available to the general public. We believe it’s essential to have a sensitive, enthusiastic society to actively conserve the environment and ecosystems on a wider scale. “Explore Wild Species” is our initiative to fill the knowledge gap of the general public and create enthusiasm by presenting science in a simple and graphical manner. We maintain a database of natural history, systematics, and photographs for each species we are currently working on to produce world-class field guides, posters, coffee table books, and other educational and awareness materials.
